Chapter Twelve
Kara had arrived ten minutes before her appointment like she always did. She still hadnât been brought back to a room almost two hours later. Her book was finished, and she had little to do other than pick up a magazine on a table and flip through it. Sighing, Kara leaned back in the chair that had once been comfortable but was fast becoming her worst enemy.
Tiny was at least two hours late. They had told her they were running late when she checked in. They hadnât told her they were this late otherwise she probably would have walked out and rescheduled.
Twenty-four weeks had come so fast that Kara was surprised she was even back in the office to see Tiny once again. Her belly now had a distinct roundness to it, and occasionally a client had asked if she was pregnant when they were brave enough.
Sighing again and flopping the old magazine down on the table next to where she sat, Kara crossed her arms at tapped her foot against the floor. Sheâd give it another ten minutes before she walked out. She had a client coming in an hour that she needed to set up for, not to mention all the other work she had to do, and surely she could come up with something better than waiting around in the doctorâs office for hour after hour.
The past month had her head spinning. Everything with Tiny had been going almost perfectly. They had their moments like any couple did, but since her last appointment there had been a sense of ease around each other. Kara knew Tiny didnât know yet, that she hadnât figured out her secret, and that was the way she wanted it. She didnât want to draw attention to the issue.
Rubbing her lips together and glancing at the clock on the far wall, Kara cringed. She had officially been waiting for two hours. And while yes, she and Tiny were together in whatever their relationship wasâit wasnât dating because Kara knew she couldnât handle that, but it was close enoughâand she did not expect special treatment, she did expect at least the courtesy of not making her wait her whole day away.
Kara ran her hand along her chin and her cheek, taking a deep breath as she prepared to get up and leave. She wasnât going to waste any more of her time waiting for Tiny to get back on track with her appointments that day. As soon as she leaned forward the door to the back opened, and Krista popped her head in.
âKara.â
Groaning with her damn luck, Kara stood up and walked toward Krista. They took her weight and her blood pressure, and then she was stuck in the small patient room waiting for Tiny to arrive with still no book to read. Next time sheâd have to make sure she packed two books in her purse in case this happened again.
The door to the room opened loudly, and Kara jerked her head
